Fitness

Why is physical fitness so important for those with gastrointestinal problems? Well, there are a couple answers.

The first answer is that physical fitness is important for EVERYONE. We just have a more difficult time managing our physical health due to unpleasant symptoms. Exercise can reduce anxiety and depression, as well as lower risk for chronic diseases such as Type II Diabetes, Hypertension, Stroke, and Osteoporosis.

The second answer is that exercise and being in shape have direct benefits toward our quality of life. Various forms of exercise have been shown to directly mitigate symptom severity in those with IBS. Additionally, having excess body fat leads to excess inflammation within the body, which can exacerbate existing problems in the gut.
